January 2024 Walk

January 2024 Walk

The January walk from the White Horse at Broughton Astley was led by Allen.  The proposed route had been changed due to the flooding earlier in the month.

Leaving the pub after pre-ordering our lunch we turned left into Church Close and in Old Mill Road we took the waymarked track on our right to Leire.  It was a fairly straight track over five fields (some soggy, one muddy and a couple of stiles) to reach Broughton Lane.  Here we bade farewell to three of our walkers who were doing an alternative shorter route back to the pub.  Our walk continued into Leire and up Main Street to St Paul's Church.  On reaching Dunton Road we turned left and at the road sign took the track on our left.

After passing Jessica Corser Eventing buildings we crossed the first stile on our left and after the next stile turned right where we then had a further five stiles to cross to reach Stemborough Lane.  Here we stopped for a short break before continuing down the lane to the mill.  By Valley View Farm we took the track up Clump Hill pausing at the top to take in the view towards Charnwood.  Then it was downhill to the housing estate and with the help of a street map we returned to Old Mill Road where we retraced our steps for a very short distance before turning right.  This track brought us to the stream which after crossing the bridge we turned left and after about fifty yards turned right into The Rectory Close. Straight ahead was the path into St Mary's churchyard which we followed round to the stream and over the bridge into Church Close.  Soon we were back at the pub ready for our lunch.

Looking ahead we are in need of volunteers for March & Nov walks
