Sept 2023 walk

Sept 2023 walk

The September walk from the Hercules Revived in Sutton Cheney was led by Graham and Kath.  Leaving the pub we turned left then crossed the road into the churchyard exiting onto Bosworth Road.  We then took the left fork into Ambion Lane walking along the footpath until we reached the waymark on our left for the Leicestershire Round.  Going through the double gates we turned right and followed the track through four fields to the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre.  Turning right onto the exit road we went downhill for a short distance then took the path on our left which we followed down to Shenton Station.  Turning left we followed the disused railway track until we reached the Ashby-de-la-Zouch canal.  Crossing the bridge and turning right we joined the towpath which we followed to the Sutton Wharf Bridge.  Crossing the bridge we went into the car park and had our break using a couple of vacant picnic tables.

Continuing on our way, we passed the small café and followed the Round up through Ambion Wood to the Battle Centre.  From here we retraced our walk back to Sutton Cheney.  Before we reached the pub for our lunch we visited St James' Church where, by tradition, Richard III heard mass for the last time on 22 August 1485.
