January 2020 walk

January 2020 walk

The January walk from 'The Bell' at Gumley was led by Beryl.  There were twenty eight walkers (including three new members) on what was a chilly and damp morning.  Due to the current state of many fields this walk was on country lanes and roads.  Leaving the pub we turned right down Main Street then took the right fork which led up to Bunkers Hill.  On reaching the crossroads we turned right onto Laughton Road and continued gently uphill until we reached the lane to our right signposted Laughton 1 mile.  On arriving at Laughton we turned right into Main Street and stopped for our break where, in an adjacent field, were quite a few lambs.  Continuing on our way, just past The Cottage, we turned right into Gumley Road and soon some of us spotted a red kite.  After crossing the cattle grid we headed for the cricket ground and the Grade ll Listed Memorial Cross (awarded 24.01.2019), passing several hundred sheep on the way.  At the next cattle grid we turned right once more and made our way down through the village to The Bell for lunch.
