February 2020 walk

February 2020 walk

The February walk from 'The Cradock Arms' at Knighton was led by John and Pat Troake.  There were twenty-one walkers on what was a cool but sunny morning.  Due to the current state of many fields this walk was mainly on footpaths and in parks.  Leaving the pub we turned right and at the bottom of the hill went ahead along Church Lane passing the church of St Mary Magdalen.

After crossing Saffron Brook we headed along Kingsmead Road until we reached the ring road.  Turning left, and passing Overdale School we used the light controlled crossing to access Knighton Park.  First stop was the sensory Garden, an oasis of tranquillity.  We continued on the main path which brought us to the main car park where we turned right and continued up to the entrance to the Leicester Race Course.  Passing the stables we took the jitty into Granville Avenue and at the bottom crossed the A6.  On reaching Glebe Road we went into the Botanical Gardens where we had our break.  Back to the A6 we headed towards town until we reached the light controlled crossing.  Once over we turned left into Holbrook Road then right into South Knighton Road.  At the end of this road we turned right into Elm Road and then left at Ratcliffe Road.

Finally we turned left into Knighton Road and after passing College Court (no visit to the Attenborough arboretum on this occasion) we were soon back at the Cradock for our lunch.
