September 2019 walk

September 2019 walk

The September walk from 'The Bricklayers Arms' at Thornton was led by David and Susan.  There were fifteen walkers on what turned out to be a warm and sunny day after the early morning rain.  Turning left out of the pub we walked as far as the church and followed the path through the churchyard down to the edge of the reservoir.  On reaching the end of the reservoir we turned right onto the Leicestershire Round for a short distance before taking the track on the left.  This took us along the edge of Browns Wood.  On reaching Markfield Road we turned left and at the top of the hill turned right to the end of the village.  After a short distance on Stanton Lane, at the sharp bend in the road we went straight ahead through another wood.  Skirting round the edge of a couple of ploughed fields we reached the Ivanhoe Way and followed it over the hill and down to the railway line.  Before going under the line we stopped for our break in glorious sunshine.  Off again uphill we soon reached Main Street in Bagworth.  Turning left and left again into Thornton Lane, we followed this road down to Cross Hills Baptist Church.  Turning right before the church the track went through another wood, over the railway line and, past Thornton Mill.  We then had a steep climb up through the housing estate to the main street, and then only a short distance back to the pub for lunch.
