Trespass

Trespass

Written by Rose Tremain, this tells of a silent valley in Southern France where stands an isolated farmhouse, The Mas Lunel. Its owner is Aramon Lunel, an alcoholic haunted by his violent past. His sister, Audrun, alone in her bungalow within sight of the Mas Lunel, dreams of exacting retribution for the unspoken betrayals that have blighted her life.

Everyone thought the book was well written and constructed, but most of the characters, although skilfully described, were not well liked.  The diverse characters in the booked were expertly woven together .

There was some distressing imagery in the book, such as the neglected, starving dogs and the abuse suffered by Audrun at the hands of her father and brother.

Most of the group were glad they'd read the book, but would be careful of the audience before recommending it.
